Mary Mai Nguyen and Tuoc Duong have filed a lawsuit in Harris County, Texas against AstraZeneca and sales representative Ghadeer Rafeedie, alleging the side effects of Nexium, a proton pump inhibitor used for heart burn and acid reflux, caused them to suffer bone deterioration and bone fractures. According to the lawsuit, studies performed as early as 2006 found that PPIs read more interfere with the body’s ability to absorb calcium, which increases bone loss and bone fractures, and that AstraZeneca ‘obscured, misrepresented and obfuscated” the information.

The lawsuit also says that AstraZeneca failed to adequately research the drug or warn consumers and physicians about the increased risks of bone deterioration and fracture. click here

In May 2010, the FDA issued a warning regarding the increased risk of bone fracture from Nexium and other Proton Pump Inhibitors. In March 2011, the FDA updated the warning, stating that the risk of fracture was linked to high doses of Nexium used over long periods.

Other Proton Pump Inhibitors, including Prilosec, Prevacid, Zegerid, Aciphex, and Protonix, have been involved in similar lawsuits alleging bone deterioration and bone fracture.
